New Lands: Unpack Your Bags with Confidence

In sticking with the theme of moving from one land to another and how God often calls us to new places for His purposes and plans that I shared on my FB page Friday (and for those moms reading in my more immediate community, I am not referring to changing schools, lol!  ), I am encouraged by Abraham’s obedience and faith in leaving his comfort zone. Scripture tells us that “he left,” (and later) “arrived.” (Gen 12:4-5) God saw to it that Abraham did arrive. (Gen 12:5) God was faithful and took care of Abraham and provided resources for him just as He does with us when we are in route to an unknown.

A short time later, when Abraham went down to Egypt, we read that he told a lie to the Egyptian officials relative to his wife Sarai in order to preserve his life.  “Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.”(Gen 12:10-13)  Who hasn’t felt that  surge of panic when feeling anxious and as a result, attempted to solve a problem in a knee-jerk sort of a way? Guilty!

Some situations truly cause us to panic, make us feel desperate and cause us to do something and something fast. Have you  ever felt like that? I can’t count the number of times I reacted before consulting with God and used my own fears or insecurity to pave the way in going forward.

Where are you today, mom? Do you need to meet with God about a situation before solving something on your own?  Let’s encourage one another to ask God first and trust Him for His insight, truths, strength and wisdom before quickly responding and addressing our problem(s) in our own might. When we seek God’s way of thinking and His perspective through prayer, patience, reading scripture and planning, He provides a correct way of thinking, hence, our outcomes and solutions reflect correctness even if the response we take doesn’t make sense, feel right, lead to a rocky path or when the direction looks all wrong. When you are following God, all is right.

Abraham tried to alleviate his fears by lying which only caused more complications for him as we see in chapter 12. Let’s try going to God first when solving a problem. In doing so, we’re sure to know that the land we end up in is the one we’re suppose to be at and we can unpack our bags with confidence that that is where we are suppose to be.

Recommended Scripture:

“The Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.” Gen 39:23

“Because of your great compassion you did not abandon them in the desert.” Nehemiah 9:19

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
